Content is Not King
It could be Queen, but it’s undoubtedly not King and I will tell you why. I am very bored with hearing the virtues of content when all of the search engines place more value on off-website influences. If content really were king and you had 10 sites that were all on the same subject, well written and optimized, how would the search engines verify which site was most relevant? One of those sites goes to have to be 1st and one of these sites goes to have to be tenth. Well, google »”>Google found an answer for this and that is off-web site influences, specifically link popularity – sites linking to your site. Each web site linking to you may be a “vote” for your site saying, “this site is concerning thus and so.”
This off-site influence is therefore strong that sites will rank extraordinarily well for terms that do not even exist in the site’s copy. If you search “miserable failure” on Google the #one website is Biography of President George Bush. If you search the copy on the homepage you may find {that the} term “miserable failure” does not even exist on the page. If content is king how will a website rank #1 for a term that doesn’t even exist on the page? Is not this telling us that content extremely is not king which link popularity is extremely the reigning power?
I have a website that I place up for my mom’s book all about chastity, sex and relationships. The entire book is offered to scan on-line either on html pages or pdfs. The content is relevant and superbly written. Is is #one for chastity in any of the search engines? No. Why? Because it lacks link popularity.
Content is not King and most likely never can be. It positively helps, however it can never offer you the weight in search engines that link popularity does now.
